Chris is fantastic!! He takes the time to get to know you what you are looking for in a boat. First Class! We contacted Chris about visiting Rio Dulce from CA to look at a few boats. Chris helped make the trip south easy; first by providing a contract for a driver to meet us at the airport and take us to an ATM and then the to catch the bus to RIo Dulce. Chris met us the next morning to show us boats. During this time he also gave us local tips and familiarized us with the area. Chris provides a great service and makes it easier to buy a boat and provides advice and important information from registration to haul outs. It's a beautiful area and we are looking forward to next season. Thank you Chris! Tomread more

We could not be more pleased with the service we received from Chris. We would recommend Seakist Yacht Sales to anyone interested in buying a boat in Rio Dulce. Since this was our first "real" sailboat we really appreciated Chris's knowledge of boats, the boat buying process, and the Rio Dulce area. Chris was helpful with travel and hotel suggestions, which meant a lot since we have never traveled to Guatemala before. After a few conversations about our plans and price point, Chris showed us what was available to fit our needs. While also giving us a grand tour of the area and pointing out where to get this and that along the way. Once we made our decision he walked us step by step through the survey/sea trial and on through the escrow and registration process. All along the way he was always promp with replies to our questions and timely in his attendance to the stages of the process. Chris even met us at the bus station to give us a lancha ride to our boat when we first moved aboard and made a couple marina suggestions considering our lack of a dinghy.read more

We actually found a sailboat in Rio Dulce to purchase and went to see it.Unfortunately, once we got there the boat was not as advertised, (Facebook for sale by owner). We contacted a local broker, Chris Stanley at Seakist,Chris immediately asked for an interview to determine our wants, budget and overall goals. The very next day Chris picked us up and showed us everything that met our agenda and a few he thought we would consider. We found " the one" the very next day and made an offer. From there Chris handled everything from survey to a diesel mechanic and scheduling a sea trial. He basically held our hand throughout the whole process not only working for us but also the seller to get the right deal for both. It was so easy. After negotiations resulting from the survey, we came to a mutual agreement and began the International paperwork. ASAP the title and registration company set up an escrow account making the financial and paperwork transaction simple and straightforward.Chris also went out of his way to ensure we had the tools we needed for our stay in Rio Dulce. We didn't speak any Spanish and were really not prepared for an extended stay. He ever took us on a tour of the town and introduced us to people to make us feel at home there.6 months later, we are thrilled with our purchase of a 38ft Moody monohull Sailboat and are about to sail away to our next adventure.Chris has helped us in so many ways, in fact, we are currently slipped at his marina while in the states. I feel absolutely confident our Yacht is secure and maintained in our absence.I've met so many people that Chris has helped with their dream, all happyOur new interiorcustomers.I've also met people that didn't use Chris with their purchase and have heard all types of terrible things about the transactions.I wouldn't recommend trying to save a few bucks and doing it on your own. The experience we had with Chris Stanley at SeaKist was simple, straightforward and resulted in us buying the best boat for us with no surprises, and saving us a lot of money in the end.Jeff and Maria ArmsNovember 2018read more

Rio Dulce Guatemala

where to stay during hurricane season

One of the best places in the world to store your yacht when not cruising is the Rio Dulce region of Guatemala during hurricane season.  Nestled between mountains and two fantastic sailing lakes – El Golfete and Lago Izabal, Rio Dulce is a special place for many reasons – a BIG one in that it provides yacht owners a safe haven from hurricanes.  During peak season, Rio Dulce is home to over 600 yachts spread throughout 15 marinas in the surrounding areas. In addition to many small hotels, restaurants, and shopping, there are many marine services available here: a West Marine Pro Store, three haul-out yards, a machine shop, and other professional services such as: yacht refrigeration and air conditioning, electrical, alternator rebuild, diesel mechanics, carpentry, a renowned sail-maker, upholstery and more.  Year-round activities abound for cruisers – hiking, yoga, Trivia nights, and volleyball to name a few – where we get together for a few laughs.

The Guatemalan people are very welcoming and friendly. Together, we share a place that offers views of the mountains in every direction; enjoy year-round warm weather and ever changing flora.  Many local people travel by dugout canoe but there is also modern motor traffic. It’s a peaceful place to go sailing or exploring up one of the many river tributaries. Take a trip across Lake Golfete and upon entering the Rio Dulce river on the way to the port town of Livingston, and you will pass through magnificent canyons that spill into the jungle. You can stop at the hot springs, or cold springs or perhaps eat lunch at one of the local restaurants along the way. Once in Livingston, where a large Garifuna population lives, you will enjoy a selection of restaurants overlooking the sea and beautiful beadwork offerings of local artisans.

Boaters and tourists are very welcomed in Rio Dulce and the surrounding area. Guatemala offers an extraordinary mix of beautiful nature, interesting culture, the many historical sites and most of all – our relationships with the BIG hearted Guatemalan people.

If you don’t speak Spanish or are unfamiliar with the area, SeaKist Yacht Sales offers plane-to-yacht personalized service, and can assist any aspect of transportation or lodging according to your wishes – which makes your experience easy and fun!  Once arrived, it’s off to see that Yacht you’ve been dreaming about!
